Why Scheffau?
Few villages enjoy a setting as spectacularly beautiful as Scheffau. Nestled in the sunny foothills of the Wilden Kaiser mountains against a backdrop of towering peaks, the village is close to its own pristine mountain lake, the Hintersteinersee
From the village there is a choice of paths of differing lengths, leading to the Hintersteinersee lake, which makes an excellent first day's leisurely outing.
For longer, more adventurous walks, you are in the perfect spot, with paths heading both ways into the Wilden Kaiser range. Either follow the contours through the foothills, or for experienced hikers, you may hike up and over the passes into the Kaiserbach valley on the other side. There is also a free programme of guided walks and bike tours, run by the Scheffau Tourist Office. Alternatively, a 5-minute car ride takes you down to the Brandstadl cable-car, which brings you to the top of the opposite side of the valley, with its gentler hills, and an excellent area for mountain-biking, it has trails in both directions from the village and from the top of the Brandstadl cable-car.
Enjoy also local specialities in a pleasant atmosphere at one of our cultural events. "The Scheffau Village Evenings“ are very popular in Summer.
